Mission Trip

Dr. Jacob and staff at the Center for Reproductive Medicine and Robotic surgery are committed to providing compassionate and personalized care to patients. Charity mission work is also a part of life at the Center. Two weeks ago Dr. Jacob and a team of eight medical staff made a charity mission trip to Honduras in central America. Honduras is one of the poorest countries in the western hemisphere with very poor medical facilities. The team flew into Tegucigapa, the capital of the country and took a six hour bumpy truck drive to a small town called Catacama. The team examined and performed surgeries on patients for a whole week at the Hospital Santo Hermano Pedro.

Dr. Jacob Says; “It was a very humbling experience. We saw patients piling into the hospital waiting room from 5 AM in the morning. Some patients had waited for a gynecology surgeon for more than 3 years. On Sunday we saw more than 60 patients. We started operating from 7 AM to 11 PM each day starting Monday and were able to do 38 major cases in a week. We did vaginal hysterectomies for prolapse, abdominal surgeries for ovarian cancer and laparoscopies for infertility”.

“Though we were exhausted by the end of the week, it was really satisfying, just to know that we were able to change the lives of many our patient we operated on”. Even with significant language barrier, the happiness and relief of symptoms in those poor patients were worth every moment of the trip.”
